Welcomed Home for this Tiny Trio

This weekend we were fortunate enough to add a new group to our Kanine Kings family, with a weekend stay with Chloe, Cooper & Jesse.  There was a bit of trepidation to start my visit, but ultimately this group was won over.  They were a fun and friendly group and they spent a lot of the weekend relaxing on the couch or on one of their dog beds.  Everyone was on their best behavior for the weekend, and there were lots of treats to be had for each of them.  We spent some time out in the yard, checking out some fresh snowfall, but mostly they were content to snuggle up on the couch and nap.  We are happy to welcome these three and hope that there will be more time to spend with them down the road.

Sunday Funday

We have been busy at Kanine Kings this month and Sunday was no exception.  The weather was a bit chilly, but that didn't stop us from taking a trip to Fel's Grove with seven great dogs.  Navy, Leo, Grace, Saltine, Hank, Roxy & Zoey were off to a fast start when we arrived and were quick to retrieve a bunch of tennis balls that had been left behind.  We did a lot of throwing and they did a lot of chasing, and everyone had a great run, getting in lots of exercise.  We were lucky to have a good portion of this group for the weekend, and they couldn't have been better behaved.  Everyone had their fun and we found quite a few extra tennis balls before taking everyone home in time to greet their owner's arrival from their weekends away.

Strutting downtown with Max

Max and I enjoyed a nice walk around the downtown district of Portland. We took on a gusty headwind to get to Monument Square to do a little exploring. Max was on point today and at times lead with a command I rarely get to see. I don't know what got into him but we had a bit of a chilly walk around One City Center. Eventually we reached his front door and got him inside to relax before his appointment with the groomers.

Quick trip to the cemetery with Bennie and Georgie

I accompanied Bennie and Georgie to the Evergreen Cemetery this morning to get a little exercise. We had a pleasant short walk to arrive at the entrance then enjoyed a nice loop around the empty cemetery. It was almost too quiet which gave it some eerie calm before the storm overtones. They were well behaved as we completed our loop and returned them safely home to enjoy the afternoon.

Around the Bay with Otto

Otto and I hit the Back Bay today for a little exercise and fresh air. We enjoyed the sights of the boulevard for a short stretch but decided to explore the neighborhood on the way back because of the raw wind off the water today. Otto was happy to get outside and was well behaved for our quiet walk through his neighborhood. We completed our big loop safely and left Otto comfortably inside to enjoy the rest of his day.

Friendly flurries in Falmouth

I had a fun 4-pack of pups this afternoon to run and play in the flurries that had blown in. Ina, Koda, Mya and Tucker are all good friends and really enjoy the woods by Highland Lake. The dusting of snow made the icy sections even more treacherous but Ina and Koda were still blazingly fast running through the trees. We made it all the way out to the meadow for a minute to enjoy the magical nature of the forest on this fine Friday. They played some more and found a few nice sticks on the way back to the car. Everyone got home safely to relax a little and maybe cozy up for a nap.

Six Golden Pups

Last but not least for this busy Friday at Kanine Kings was a trip to Fel's Grove to take a run with six great Golden dogs.  We had three Golden Retreivers, Grace, Zoey & Roxy and three Golden Doodles, Lola, Hank & Leo ready to chase some tennis balls across the frozen grove.  They played keep away a bit after the ball was tossed before returning it to be tossed once again.  This group had the place all to themselves today, and had a blast running and playing and wrestling in the filed and woods.  They were all on their best behavior today and everyone had a blast despite the light snowfall and chilly temperatures.  It was a great way to spend a snowy Friday afternoon at Kanine Kings.

Friday Fun with Finn

A chilly Friday also called for a visit with Finn for a stroll around the neighborhood and some lunch.  He was quick to get outside today and was excited despite the cold weather.  He chased some leaves around in the yard before he did his business then headed inside for some lunch.  Finn was very happy today and made quick work of his meal before we took a last trip outside to walk it off before we left him to his crate to await his owner's weekend arrival.

Three For Friday in the Preserve

Friday called for a bit of snow but nothing crazy and we started with a trio of pups at the preserve in Scarborough.  Ginger, Riley & Ina were high energy and ran from the instant they hit the parking lot.  They ran as far as they could until they were completely out of sight, then ran back just as fast.  This group didn't need any toys or balls to chase, they just chased each other.  We hit the field and ran some more before it was time to head for home to catch our breath for the weekend.  We had the preserve all to ourselves for the afternoon and this group had a blast on this chilly Friday at Kanine Kings.

Nine is Fine

To close out this busy Thursday, Jason and I took a trip to Fel's Grove with a supersized group of pups.  We had a big group of Golden Retrievers, Nala, Henry, Grace, Zoey & Roxy to go with a mix of Saltine, Phoebe, Ruby & Riley.  This was a giant ball of fur flying across the grove, sliding on the ice and chasing as many balls as they could find.  We recovered a few from our prior visits, and this group gave chase to each and every one as well as one another.  They wrestled and played and got a bit wet, but nothing that hadn't dried off by the time we left.  This group was on their best behavior for the afternoon, we had the grove to ourselves with the exception of a single visitor that strolled through and they happily greeted him.  The weather was a bit chilly, but the sun was shining today on another great day at Kanine Kings.

Chasing Leaves with Finn

Next up was a trip to visit with the youngest of the Kanine Kings, Finn.  He seems to get bigger every day, and today was no exception.  He was excited to see me when I arrived today and was ready to head outside for a stroll.  He was easily distracted by the blowing leaves in the yard and spent most of the time chasing them and chewing on them once he caught them.  We went inside for some lunch and he spent a lot of the time trying to play with his big brother Riley.  He finally settled in and had some water and food before we left him with some toys and treats for the afternoon for him to relax with and await his owner's arrival.  It was another fun visit with Finn today and he was happy to get out and play today.

Chilly and Chillin' with Otto

Next up was a trip back to Portland for a walk along the waterfront with Otto.  The wind was a bit chilly off the ocean, and Otto doesn't have the fur to keep warm, so we went toward his neighborhood to try and warm up.  It was nicer in the sun away from the ocean, so we did a few laps around the blocks around his house before he was ready to head home.  Otto was happy to get out today and happy to get home to his nice warm living room for the afternoon.  Otto is a great dog and he was on his best behavior for the afternoon until he got home to prepare to meet his owner in the afternoon.

Terrific Trio at the Preserve

Thursday was a bit chilly, but the sun was shining and it was a great day to visit the preserve in Scarborough.  Ginger, Lola & Saltine were off to a fast start down the trail and into the woods.  They took turns playing chase, sliding on the ice and rolling around in the woods.  This group found the biggest stick they cold and played some tug of war with it until they were bored, then they tried to run around with it.  This didn't work too well, but they still managed to play chase without it and head back into the woods.  We had the preserve all to ourselves and these these three all had a lot of fun before it was time to head home to relax for the afternoon.

A windy lunch break with Max

I made it downtown to see Max before a quick lunch break today. It was a bit chilly and windy as we reached Monument Square for the first part of our walk. After Max was done exploring we took the long way around to One City Center. He then lead the way right into the sun to warm us up some for a little exercise. Max made sure to stop and explore a few more intriguing spots before our final destination. We arrived on his doorstep safely and let him in to enjoy the remainder of the afternoon.

A little morning Hope

I began my day on one of my favorite sections of the Portland trail system. It is off of Hope Ave and runs along a picturesque stretch of the Presumpscot River. I brought along Bella and Abby with me for a pleasant morning stroll by the riverside. We explored at our leisure and took in the pretty nature of the morning sunshine coming through the trees. After a little exercise to get back to the parking lot I returned them home. It was a great way to get the day started here at Kanine Kings.

Flip-flop at Tucker's

My afternoon group walk today did a complete reversal from the group I had at Tucker's yesterday. Today I brought along two high energy poodle pups, Remy and Lola that just come alive when we get out into the wilderness. They bolted from the car and immediately began playing and chasing. Tucker stuck to the trail mostly while the other two ran tirelessly through the trees. We didn't get too dirty today but couldn't avoid running through a few of the big puddles that had taken shape. On the way back to the car they found a few sticks to nibble on and washed it down with some refreshing ice cold water. We reached the car safely and got them dried off and home to enjoy the remainder of the day.

A Little Recess with Max

I had an early afternoon appointment scheduled downtown with Max up next. We explored around Monument Square to take in the sights of the oldport and stretch out our legs. Max was happy to enjoy some sunshine while exploring his favorite spots. He was well behaved and glad to stop for a minute to make two new friends out on their lunch break. We took in the warming sun afterwards before eventually finding the way home and back to his bed.

A Friendly Visit with Finn

Wednesday also included a couple of visits to check in on Finn.  When I arrived he was ready to go outside and we did a loop around the neighborhood.  He chased a few leaves and splashed in some small puddles before we headed inside for lunch.  He picked at it a bit, then tried to play with Riley, before we left to take Riley on a run.  When we returned, he finished his lunch, went back outside for a stroll, before we left him in his crate with a few treats before hitting the road.

Four in the Forest at Pratt's Brook

Next up for this beautiful Wednesday at Kanine Kings was a trip to Yarmouth with a four pack of great pups.  Kaia, Macey, Riley and Ina were all ready to run when we got to the parking lot and we were off to a fast start.  We saw a few other dogs out enjoying the day with their owners and this group was happy to play with them.  Everyone got a bit wet in the puddles along the trail, but nobody ventured into the heavy flowing brook.  Everyone got in a nice long walk and were on their best behavior for the day, before we decided to head back to the car to towel off.  We dried off a bit before heading for home to spend the afternoon relaxing in the sun.  It was a great visit to Pratt's Brook with Kanine Kings.
